I'm gonna snipe on that shiny MS.  My bio filter pump is falling apart (and, being a vane pump, is bloomin' noisy).  Plus I don't have an MS yet so my collection is lacking :)

Sorry, like the idiot I am I muddled up the links!  I'm sure you found it but just in case this is the correct link ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dresser-Mono-Pump-with-Brook-Crompton-Motor-240V-Single-Phase-Type-CMS241-H13F-/262798501851?hash=item3d3002e7db:g:kq4AAOSwA3dYclhA

Good luck with it, it looks like a nice pump, less to go wrong on an MS ... no coupling, the rotor is screwed directly to the motor shaft and the flange on the stator flexes to account for the eccentricity of the rotor.

Let us know how you get on.

Wont you then need to spend about £70 on a viton stator?

Not bothered with my Mono ML, which I've had since my early bio days and is still going strong.  Paid £24 for that pump. :)

Stators do turn up on eBay for around the £25 mark if you're patient... same with rotors.

I have a spare rotor for my mono ml somwhere, but no stator - and, of course, its the stators that die.  I cant see a rotor ever dying from the amount of veg / glyc etc that i pump.

Ive always been careful to flush through with veg after pumping glyc, but i had an air leak on the inlet a while back, and it was running for a while, and i think some of the magic smoke has escaped from the stator.  It still pumps fine, but is a pain to prime.

Do you think friction damaged it then rather than the glyc?

I must admit mine has only ever pumped veg or bio and not at any temperature.

Yes, certainly.

The air leak was in the suction hose prior to the mono - so it was running dry for some time.  Well, oiled, but i think that the friction heated the rubber - there was 'smoke' rising up the clear suction inlet pipe when i turned it off.

I dont think glyc has harmed it due to always flushing it with veg.  But im under the impression that it would if i left it in there, left bio in there (etc)

I know Julian (brtp) uses his on his reactor, but i think his has a viton stator.

I do and it does have a Viton stator, however I'd used it for some time previously with a Nitrile stator and it was always parked full of whatever it last pumped.  Due to the way it's piped up this can be oil, part reacted bio C/W all chemicals and glycerin.

The stator required replacing only because it was old and I ran it against a closed valve which has a tendency to shear off the flange on an MS.  The Nitrile although a little warn didn't show any noticeable signs of chemical attack.

I'd just run with a standard stator until the time you HAVE to replace it then make the decision if it's worth paying the extra for Viton.

No luck on that Mono MS, I was outbid by a couple of quid!

I did however pick up another one, slightly more modern build - but it has been dropped on one end and the cowling is missing.  I had a long chat with Dave at Anchor Pumps (professional pumpophile as it turns out) and he asked Mono, but apparently not a part they stock as a spare and none on the scrappers pumps he's got...

Do you mean the motor cowling?  If so it's a good candidate for 3D print.

If you mean the plastic cover/s on the pump, there's an stl file on the wiki.

Yeah fan cowling.  I saw your .stls on the wiki (turned up when I googled!)

I'm thinking that the fan cowling would be a useful addition - though not general purpose (obviously depends which pump motor is fitted to the MS).

Over the years Mono used many motor suppliers ... could try the motor manufacturer if it still has its rating plate.

I think our resident trumpet player (who seem to be using his mute recently ... hope all is OK?) printed a motor cowl.  It may be possible to take his and scale to suit.

Good deal for someone - I'd have snapped this up if I didn't have quite a few of them already :)
