How about 1 inch Bsp inlet with 22mm pipework onto it.

Mmmmmm! let's put it this way, I wouldn't do it, I'd run 28mm from the tank outlet to the pump with LONG radius bends, if needed.

LOL, so fancy building me a twin cone reactor with 22mm piping and pointing me to an 80 LPM pump with 1 inch Bsp inlet to go with it then Jim. Ya could have pointed it out all them years ago.

Anyways it's worked absolutely fine all the time I have had it. Empties the reactor in the time you would expect based on flow rate and even now has a 110 lpm pump which also works without issues.   So I assume theories don't always have the effect in practise maybe.

Woh, you've queezed 110lpm through a 22mm pipe?  The fluid velocity must be incredible.

Here's 80lpm through a 22mm pipe on my processor

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1v1w6chKYos

This is fine for discharge pipework in relatively short runs but definitely not for suction - the problem is getting cavitation when the Methanol/biodiesel mix is approaching the point where the Methanol is starting to boil - even the slightest resistance can cause cavitation and this dramatically affects the pump's performance and ability to drive the venturi.

Every pump's performance is different, and for the same maximum flow rate two pumps can have different inlet sizes, presumably a decision by the manufacturers based on anticipated suction run length.  There are some general rules on fluid velocity for pump inlets and outlets, they all vary depends on whose advice you follow, but they all allow roughly twice the outlet velocity than the inlet velocity.  I'll have to see if I can find my notes but I'm pretty sure 80lpm through 22mm is way over all of the recommended inlet velocities :)

Generally if you go by the inlet size to determine the pipework sizing there's not much to get wrong.

If you hadn't use the elbow on the 22mm pipe you'd have seen some real flow.

Strangely enough Stuart Turners use 3/4" in and out on their 80/90ltr pumps wheres as the TAM has 1" on their 40ltr pumps

If you want excellent service and after sales backup you will not go far wrong with one of Glenn's pumps.

That's going some :)

BTW you should spell check your site - capitalise I's, vegetable is miss-spelt in one place and replace wont with won't and cant with can't.

You may want to check the spec's on the pumps too, the figures look a bit ambiguous.
