Liquid ring is a cunning self-priming pump mechanism using an offset centrifugal impeller, where liquid flung against the outside of the casing forms the seal... well - it's difficult to put in words - there are some diagrams here that do a great job (this is for a vacuum pump but the same principle applies to liquids):

Tellerini is the Italian manufacturer of such devices.  Don't see them too often and I've long wanted one after getting pump envy seeing Keith's in action (though my new one is a little smaller than Keith's beast).

Sweet, just picked up a mini version of Keith's liquid ring tellerini for just over a fiver :) Keith how does yours manage bcbs? I'm thinking to use it as a transfer pump for wvo.
Not had a problem with bcb,s but the other half still needlessly filters the oil so it might not have been fully tested on that, have you got reverse? great for plugs of solid glyc  :D

Reversible?  Oh, I'm in love!
I find reverse very useful since starting glyc washes,i ve got enough liquid in the 2" pipework above the pump to blast a solid glyc plug out,i wonder how fast/high it gets?,ought to leave the top off and see if i can shoot it out the processor ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'm with your "other half", bioly speaking.  I've always filtered and settled my oil before production.  I have a strong belief that even microscopic food particals can harbour water.

Not sure about BCBs, it'd be a shame to break the impeller - might use this for clean oil/bio transfer only.

Ended early by the seller by the look of it, must have thought no-one would bid?

Just goes to show, gotta keep your eyes open. i suppose if someone really wanted it, they could contact the seller and do a deal. Maybe he sold it privately before the end of the auction.

This could be good - 2" ports 0.9HP
No idea of flow rate though http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/water-pump-transfer-pump-/350625402100?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item51a2e70cf4

Looks like a swimimg pool pump, most are plastic housing / impeler and if they're anything like the plastic ones that me and Tony tested they wont last long with hot bio.
