Bid on this as a backup for mine today... went for £102!  Bit rich for me considering it might not even have the right materials for bio...

Oh well will keep an eye out!

Nice little Mono, shame it's 3ph.  On these, if I remember correctly, the motor shaft is a special where the coupling screws straight on, so a motor change may be difficult.

Might do as spares if the price is right.

I always thought 240v was single phase and 415v was 3 phase, I'm sure if that is not the case someone will explain for me.

I only glanced at the spec and saw the 3ph bit.

Does seems a bit of an anomaly.

Might be best to get the seller to clarify if you are interested.

You can connect three phase motors in star or delta configurations, star is usually 415V but delta 240V.  But both are three phase, it's just that the windings are configurable for both.

Ah I see... so does that mean if you have a 3 phase supply laid on you would have to specify the required voltage ?

Maybe I've confused the situation.

My understanding (which may be wrong!) is that in the UK you're right that single phase is 240V and three phase 415V.

But other countries have 230/240V three phase (namely the US, Canada).

So most three phase motors are configurable for international use (configure the windings depending on your local three phase supply).

The point is that just because the motor says 240V on it, it may not be single phase, as most three phase motors are capable of being connected both 415V (star) and 240V (delta) three phase.  They are usually marked with a Y for star configuration or a triangle for delta.

To doubly add to the confusion some big motors are started in one configuration then switched to the other.

So does that mean this pump is not UK compatible... sorry to sound so stupid but I haven't a clue with this type of lectrix

Back to the mono - could be either he's misread it and it's single phase or it's three phase and the label says both 240V and 415V but he not mentioned the latter.

Ummm, it's not 240/115 is it. Thats possible, something to do with wiring the coils in series or parallel. I posted a thread on the VOD about something called a series/parallel motor. Only very old ones had it apparently.

There's an ex-navy place in Crediton that has had a couple of monos knocking about for ages.

They are the same odd power configuration.  When i first spotted them, i asked one of the chaps there about them, and they said that they were some non-standard config - ie custom jobs for the navy.

I kind of wonder if the pump linked to above might have a shared history?  Crediton isnt *that* big a place.

Coincidently, i drive to Crediton 6x a week.  I dont know if that would be any help to anyone?
