Tam 100 West Midlands ... bit confusing ... Condition says used and working, description says spares or repair.  Is the black bit the capicitor box broken off, could be a cheap fix.

The black bit isn't phisicaly conected to the pump in any way. but I'm not sure what it is.

I'll try and get the software on my laptop then ... try and make a wish list of what you want a panel to do, and we'll have a bash at Ebuilding it!

Have to be the Saturday, as that's the only day I'm there and you won't be around much after Sunday lunch.

I would like so see it control a womble entrapment device, automated bolt gun, womble skinning module, temperature controlled womble rotisserie and, as final stage, a bone grinding device.

Do you reckon you can get that done by Saturday Julian?

Well, I say that.  Managed to get the software loaded onto the Windows bloody 8 lap top, but the lead to connect the logic relay has a 9 pin female serial plug.  In true sods law style, the lap top has no serial socket.

You can buy adapter leads, but does anyone know if conversion software is necessary?  Some leads appear to be sold with mini CDs but many don't.

Help!

That's how I've done it before - bought a USB to serial adapter.  They have custom drivers - this is usually what is on the CD (it creates a virtual com port on the PC).

The adapters actually working seems a bit hit and miss though.

Thanks, Tony.  Don't want to spend a fortune, so looking at this as a possibility ...

Did a little reading and it would seem that "wakeup", whatever that is, a bit of an issue.  This one specifically says it operates "wake up".  The blobby bit seems to have some electronics in it, so I guess it must do a bit more that a simple lead.

Any thoughts ... I know this sort of stuff cheap off ebay is always a risk?

That's the sort of thing all right.

Easiest way to check one is working is to jam a screwdriver across pins 2 and 3 (tx and rx) and type something into a serial terminal - you should see it echoed back.

So Julian can't finist his extension in how many years,
but a turn key Womble dispatcher in under two weeks is "no problem".

Thanks for the advise, but me, stuffing screw drivers across terminals? ... best way to blow things up ... even if I knew what a serial terminal was!

I'll buy it and see how adventurueous I am when it arrives.

Oh, come on, it's as good as finished ... even the domestic authorities acknowledge that fact.

It might need a few repairs by now though!

Granted it's come on a long way since I first saw it, you even have the kitchen in and the walls painted,
but two weeks is all you have to complete a fully automated Womble killing machine,
and don't forget the OLD copper basher himself will be inspecting it, it needs to be up to his standards you know.

Then again maybe it's a good thing, you hastily cobble something together and Jim will spend all weekend stripping it down, redesigning it, fettling every component one by one until it's working "just so",
by that time it'll be Sunday afternoon and I'll be waving goodbye as leave the field in one piece.

So go ahead, do your best, and save my skin for another year.

Then you'll get the blaim for all the starving people that were expecting to feast on the finest quality Womble meat,
this will take the heat off of me, so you'll be the one that gets it next year.
