Chemically it should be fine but isn't ASM quite gloopy?

No it's not gloopy. It's slightly more viscous than methanol but gloopy it aint!

Well in that case I imagine the mag pump will be fine with ASM. :)

Can we scientifically quantify gloopy?

If not, I'm with Tony ... it's more gloopy.

It certainly looked more viscous in the colder weather.

Possably, me and Alex have been throwing a few ideas about, you know what I'm talking about.

The Bio-Grail if I remember correctly.

Will you get it done before the BBB or can Alex finish it on his own?

Umm, maybe I need to get him up to speed before then.

And yes, the Bio-Grail.

Load sensors, dosing pumps, photo cells and PLC are the way forward, but propably not in my lifetime.

Been playing with a logic relay PLC thingy today.  Wonder if there would be any interest if I brought it, a power supply and a laptop (assuming bloody windows bloody 8 will run the software), to the BBB.  We could build a virtual control panel and run it.

Could be fun, I'll see if Alex wants to come this year.

I spoke to Alex and he may well come as long as no work pops up.

I'll try and get the software on my laptop then ... try and make a wish list of what you want a panel to do, and we'll have a bash at Ebuilding it!

Have to be the Saturday, as that's the only day I'm there and you won't be around much after Sunday lunch.

Tam 100 West Midlands ... bit confusing ... Condition says used and working, description says spares or repair.  Is the black bit the capicitor box broken off, could be a cheap fix.

Good luck.  I don't think any of us has played with multistage Lowaras.  The HMS is the only one with stainless bits between stages, the HM, MHZ are PPO.

The only concern is the elastomer between stages - the datasheet says it's EPDM so may swell with bio use.

What would be the fix for a swollen EPDM?

When that happened on the first Calpeda I had, the pump seized.  The EPDM rings were an integral part of the diffusers between stages, so I couldn't just swap them out (not just o-rings - specially shaped jobs).  Maybe it's different on the Lowara - I don't know.  I did think of sanding them down to get clearance after the swelling.

In my case I picked up a cheap three-phase version of the same pump but with nylon wear rings, and swapped the parts over (it came literally as a box of bits - whoever dismantled it couldn't figure out how it went back together).
