Skype
« on: September 21, 2012, 04:40:51 PM »
The IT department (Tony) advise that it's possible to add a Skype button to forum profiles.

What are everyones thoughts on having this facility.  I think it will show your on line status, so by changing your Skype status on your PC you can be shown as unavailable or off line for those concerned about privacy.

Might be an alternative to a "shoutbox".

Keith, If you want to march boldly into the 21st century, the user name "tosserphone" is free!

Calling the tosserphone at Tosser Towers has a most satisfying ring to it!" (pun intended)

I think adding a Skype facility is a good idea - whilst I dont use it a lot, I do quite like the videocalling facility.

Sometimes it is easier to discuss something by speaking as opposed to typing.

Installed but haven't played with any settings yet :) You should be able to add your skype name to your profile now.

Got my Skype button, but it's not showing my status.  It opens Skype OK, but as much as I'm used to talking to myself most of the time I need another person to talk to.

Jules ... will you talk to meeee!  You're the only one who's expressed an interest ... in Skype that is!

For Skype Status Icon to show properly, users will need to set up their settings on their Skype Profile
In their Skype window they need to click  Skype > Privacy > activate "Allow my status to be shown on the web"
Doing this will allow thir status on skype to be shown on SMF such as Online, Away, Do not Disturb, Offline ect...

Nice, I can see you're online :)

So this skype thing, is it voice only or text chat too?

I just had a conversation with Julian (and not myself!) using Skype. I see that you can add people to a group on Skype and then call the group.
This means that conference calls are possible (with video too) which could be a laugh.

Details are here http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/features/allfeatures/conference-calls/

Tell 'em to use skype!!

I only said it as a joke! Now you lot have gone all twenty first century on me.

I can't even join in cos my old laptop has no webcam or mike. In fact I dropped it the other day and broke the screen so I'm just using the left side at the moment.  :(

If you come on skype, we could all verbally abuse you and you couldn't answer back ... sounds fine to me.

Extension's doing fine ... got half a kitchen and a floor now.  Currently putting in a cable capable of running the national grid to supply the fancy hob she liked the look of.  Bloody thing uses more than twice the current my processor does!

Disco's another matter.  Engine's running rough and despite changing half the ancillaries, I can't work out why.

As for bits falling off, funny you should mention that ... I noticed yesterday a major part of the plate holding the fuel tank in place was hanging down, having rusted through.
