Helical gear with damaged teeth
« on: July 28, 2021, 06:58:17 PM »
Just wondered if you guys had any suggestions how I can fix/replace a helical gear on an old chopsaw I have. The teeth are pretty scredded up and not available from the manufacturer as a part. Just seems a shame to throw a complete machine away cos of a gear :(

I had a cheap chop saw similarly fail with the reduction gear losing teeth.

The only realistic option here (for 1% of the population) is to buy / find another cheap, faulty one for spares to fix it.
Brewing bio. And still not breaking cars!

You can buy pre-cut gears from various suppliers.

Only issue would be if yours have special bosses, but it's worth a search or two.

That's exactly what a place an engineering mate said, find a donor. Likelyhood is very small that I'll find one, local and with the gear in good condition :(

Looked on Ebay and Google but didn't amount to much. Any ideas what sort of places I should be searching?

These people are pretty good although I haven't bought gears from them.

There will be many others, but you'll have to search for them ... it's not really the thing you'll find on ebay.

You could also consider a redesign and fit a toothed belt drive instead.  Loads of info on line.
