i think a big fire and a hamster wheel with a dog or 2 to turn it. or a small child, trouble with a small child is we may have to feed it. alternatively weights seem to be the easiest. with a suitable gearbox. there are going to be people around all the time to reset the weights. could even have a alarm when the weights get to the bottom of their travel. a small explosion maybe to be in keeping with the spirit of the occasion. there will be plenty of oil to make weights from.

I like the idea, but can't for the life of me work out how to do it with weights.

How would you regulate the speed ?

No need for a hamster when a fit young Wombul is available to turn it.
Food is not required ether just the threat of the air cannon if he slows down.

have a look at clock mechanisms. air paddles are one way. i am sure they have a proper name, but basically they spin and the air creates some resistance. they had rotisseries in the 15th century so i am sure we can make something that will work.

I really like the idea of some sort of mechanism, a wheel, a weight and a tensioner, or a pushbike rigged to an alternator to charge a battery to run the motor, so people have to peddle for some pig.

Glad you're happy with the plan.

How many people do we normally feed on Saturday evening Chug ? I'm thinking we could always chuck a chicken on as well, or even a joint of beef.
