I made a device a while back that shoots squash balls.

I stopped using it when i measured the muzzle velocity at over 200mph.

I could probably put it back together again and bring it along, but its not easy to find the squash balls again....

In this case it shouldn't be a problem, wont they be embedded in the Womble?

When i was testing it, and taking the measurements, i was trying to fire it into wadding, so as not to have to hunt.

It did not really help.

Theres a mythbusters one on shooting balls with compressed air.  They shoot into some lump of animal.  The slow-motion makes you certain that its got some power.   Theirs was considerably more powerful than mine, but same sort of idea.

If anyone has a line on squash balls, ill bring it along - but it would need more respect than you may imagine by looking at it.

(ie only shoot wombles if youre sure you want to deal with the mess...)

If we are only going to fier the wombles Balls out of the cannon it would only need to be made from microbore pipe .
Its got to be a complete womble whith the corect sized tube and enough propelant  with a veretical tube we should be able to get him into orbit.
If its timed right he could give TIM PEKE a wave .

I can get my hands on some thick wall steel tube that's just the right size for a tennis ball, I think we all know what it's for :D

I'll see if Ican bring a mig welder and some steel plate and see what we can make.

If youre using compressed air, then the trick is to be able to dump the entire volume from the receiver into the 'chamber' on one go.

Its possible with a standard ball valve, but you can get mis-fires if the valve is not whipped round fast enough.

If its moved slower, then the ball is half way down the barrel before the bulk of the force it behind it.

If i were ever to build another, that is an area which i would concentrate on.

Sounds like it needs a ball valve with a pneumatically actuated lever to fling it round quickly.

Edit: Something like this - good for 100psi

It's for an air bag cannon, is no worries about a valve.

you need a reservoir to make a air cannon work well. a ball valve on a big spring held open with plastic cord and an electric fuse that melts the cord works. nichrome wire and a car battery should do it. and a long wire so if it explodes you are fairly safe. note fairly safe. something like a womble would do if the womble is otherwise engaged,ie the target. petes new transit would work.
