the draw bar extends from 2 foot to 4 foot and its rated at 435K at the moment.

so any suggestions for must have accessories are welcome.

sort of a communal "design a trailer"

so, first. does a trailer have to be plated, who plates it, how do you get it changed and what happens with home made trailers?

Is that realy big 'laccy bands as a suspension?

Is it German by any chance?
Sure I have seen something similar behind bugs and buses at VW shows

French, that explains the quirky suspension then.

Basic, simple, works.

A far as I know, you are limited to a 750KG maximum gross weight without brakes. This is providing the tyres and suspension are rated the same, or above.
You can plate it yourself.
There are no special requirements for the strength of the chassis, it just has to be "strong enough"

There is no difference between a home made trailer, and a manufacturer built one. I used to work for a guy who made trailers. Designed and built by him (and me). They were basically home made trailers, we just made lots of them.

Two pack epoxy paint may be a solution for the fibreglass. Key it well, would be my advice.

I can't say definitively, I'm pretty sure you must have a break away chain or cable, to stop the trailer galavanting off down the road if it comes off the hitch. Looks like you already have one on that trailer. It's supposed to be attached to the vehicle by another point, not just looped over the ball.

Lighting regs should be easy enough to find.

You may want to consider you hitch weight. Your ball will be rated, probably 100KG. You may find the rating in the car handbook.
If the trailer is loaded, there must be weight on the hitch, but no more than what it is rated for.
You could easily exceed it with a load of fuel in the wrong place.
This is static mind, not when the vehicle is moving.

Truthfully, the chances of getting caught out by the law on that one are pretty slim, I'd say. Bit different if your towing a couple of tonne, or commercial. Then the ministry get a bit more interested.

I can't think of much else. Number plate, plus light, if you really want to be fussy.

You can get little plastic outriggers, so you can see a narrow trailer in the mirrors. Makes a heck of a difference when reversing, or even going down the road, to be able to see the trailer.

dont know whether to extend it upwards by 12" or not.

gonna order a spare wheel hangar too...

edit**

125kg hitch weight on mine, so with a bit of balancing should be ok.

after the oil, everything else is bulky, but not heavy.

camping chairs, toilet ect...

There's a calculation for working out the size of the draw bar depending on the gross weight of the trailer.

Loading the draw bar with oil could take it way over its designed load limit and fracture, you would want that to happen when flying down a motorway.

I'll see if I can find the calculation for you, I used to design and build custom trailers years ago.

It's funny you should say that I was looking at the Hitch before I sent it down to Simon's on Sunday. It has an extendable drawbar that goes from 24 to 48 inches. There will be 3 jerry cans fixed to the front of it and a couple in the back to even the balance up. Simon is extending the bed forwards as opposed to mounting the platform on the draw bar
