Commonly available is PLA and ABS, but Nylon and most other thermoplastics are possible.  It comes as 3mm or 1.75mm dia filament on reels in various colours, a bit like strimmer line.

I'd like to recycle cubies, what a great way of disposing of them.  To this end I've been playing a little ...

Several designs of extruder have been made using wood auger bits.

Ahem!

Oh, God ... you were my sole inspiration too (that's two sole inspirers now).

Along with the very clever designer of the cubie (ever noticed that he handle does almost the same thing) and Jerry for his wonderful design of can during world war two, and the chap who designed the tap on my ASM and sulfuric acid drums.  Not that using those was my idea, no Sir ... that was Jules's idea.
It didn't come from any of them, it came from a red wine pourer down the local pub, it stops the sediment been disturbed, what is most disappointing is the fact that with your well known love of red wine you didn't come up with it first although i suppose wine boxes don't need them  ;D

A mock-up for one, yes.

Categorically not my design I hasten to add.  Have a look on youtube, big version eat just about anything.  This design will eat tyres and a slightly different design will eat cylinder blocks!

You get sediment in posh wine ... not the stuff I drink!

Still persevering with Sketchup.  Still haven't forgotten I have yours sitting here.

Hmm, wasn't a great success.

The last tweak, all be only 0.2mm, was a tweak too far and the part wouldn't fit the drum properly.  Too much force split it but it wedged in sufficiently to give it a try.

The theory works well, no glugging and the oil comes out so fast that I think a spout and possibly a restrictor would be an advantage.

Looking like the Rawplug design may have to be investigated ... back to the keyboard as they never used to say.

Here is a video of a big version of your printed model.

We used to have one of these at South Crofty mine when I worked there and it would eat granite like it was chocolate

Nice bit of kit, but might upset the neighbours.

I picked up a pretty heavy duty shredder off freecycle yesterday ...

It seems quite happy shredding the flat sides of plastic milk bottles, so I'll pull it appart and maybe see about shortening the length of the cutters, investigate changing the drive for a more powerful motor and gearbox and rearranging the feed slot for something you can stick bigger bits of plastic (and fingers in).

Whilst posting about printing, here are a couple more failures in the non-glug drum saga ...

This one wasn't quite the right size and the hinges sections for the lugs weren't strong enough.

Much better design although very wasteful with a massive support, but the "grain" of the print ran across each finger and they snapped very easily.  Might have been better to print it on it's side.

Live and learn I suppose.  If I can ever get cubies recycled, the original design should work a treat.
