This guy seems to have built what I would like to build. It starts on gas (propane) warms up the ignition chamber and when correct temperature is reached he lets diesel into it.

I have just checked my shed and I have one of these:

I can use that to shut off liquid fuel. Another guy had built a similar engine and had used 3 pids in series connected to various sensors and it would shut down if any of the pids detected operation outside the parameters.

Now I need to experiment with nozzle making!
