Should the flow be male to female, or does it not really matter?

If it does matter, how much does it matter?

(im only wanting this for fluid transfer, no high flow / pressure processing applications)

The only ones I've seen in use were male to female, this was for transfer powder in an airflow.

Hydraulics on tractors have those sort of fittings, but much stronger. They flow out of the female, which is mounted on the tractor, and into the male, on the attachment. You do sometimes see it the other way, when there is a possibility of high pressure returning to the tractor, so I guess that is the way to do it.

i don't believe it matters which way they flow,  on my 1000 ltr cubies i fit the male part so its easier to connect the female part.

I suspect it only matters if they include a valve to stop flow. I use them on the processor and have them both ways round. Mine have no stop valves in them and have been in use for about 6 years with no probs.

I thought that it would be simplest to have a 'rule' whereby all hoses have male fittings (on both ends) and all pumps (etc) have female fittings (on both ports)


Id rather keep the male fittings on the hoses, as they do not have clips on them - so less to catch on stuff / get damaged (etc)

Oily bits sell the fittings in alluminium, but id rather some other material.  Anyone know anywhere cheap to buy them? (in 1" size)

Try Intrico, they do lots of sizes in aluminium, stainless steel and polypropylene

i used the alloy ones, they were a $1than the plastic for the small fittings the saving got beter as the size increased
