New collection - some dissapointment!

Went over to a new collection today.  10 tins in the store room, all liquid : )

I ask the usual question, as to usage etc.

"We probably use three tins a year"

3 per YEAR!!!


Oh well, im still grateful of the 10 tins i got today, but i wont be holding my breath on much more!

The tins, uncommonly, were not stabbed.

That did not stop me wrapping the tops in cling film before loading to the car, just in case!


I spent some of yesterday loading up the pre-heat tank with some kebab fat that sb118 gave me the year *before* last.  I think ive burnt out whatever neurons connect to my nose now : /

One of my collections is crazy - its like they're in a frenzy - they dont even break the seal on the red cap, but, instead, just hack a hole in the top of the tin.  Id never get it home without a load of cling film!

I also do it so as i can store tins outside (in the rain).

It works really well, but makes the handle awkward.


Another top clingfilm tip -

Put two layers over the top of a paint tin before putting the lid back on.  I didnt think of that one, nor have i ever used it, but it seems like a good idea!

Another good use is don't clean paint brushes, just wrap them in clingfilm, keeps then supple for weeks and weeks.

I've got one suppler who hacks a whopping great hole in the top of the tins, then fills two tin right to the brim with the WVO, and has one tin a third full..............

I've eventually trained then to put the tins in bin bags. The oil is so gloopy, it never seems to spill over any way.

You dont know how many brushes ive (near) killed like that...  : /

(its good for a while, but often, not as long a while as it takes me to remember the brush!)

I had one like that, 100l of lovely clear oil.  A&B wouldn't collect as less than 200l.  No ongoing collection though - they'd given up deep fat frying at that care home.  Such a shame!

My partner wants a ukulele - we're pretty skint a the moment, but i promised that the next scrap yard trip would pay for one, and, sure enough, it did : )
