27/3 test
« on: February 14, 2011, 03:00:27 PM »
Carried out my first reaction at the weekend. I did the 27/3 test and had some fallout albeit only minimal. I have been assured that the bio will be OK to use without further reaction. However, how can I make sure there is no fallout in the next processed batch?

If you didn't do one, try a two stage reaction?

Works really well for me ... just done a batch of 30 litres, good oil 40 litres palm oil blend and 10 litres really grotty whites.  I got 2 litres of water out probably from the whites and had very minor (just noticeable in the bottom of a conical test tube) drop out which I consider acceptable.

Did you test with the Methanol at 20C?

A little dropout is OK, can you measure it?

If you've got 0.3ml of dropout from your 3ml of sample then the oil is very roughly 90% converted and this is fine for most vehicles.

Probably even less than that if I'm honest. Conical bottomed test tube and about a millameter to a millameter and a half at the bottom. Don't know the temp of the methanol but definitely less than 20C.

Ringrey,

if ya get 2-3 sample jars with 27ml meth in then add 0.5ml wvo to one, 0.25ml to another and 0.1ml to a third you can then compare them to future 3/27's and get an idea of the amount of fallout, personally I will accept up to 1ml if time predicts, but prefer to get to, or as close to, no fallout if time permits.
