NVQ stands for Not Very Qualified, so can't see you making much money! ;D

I agree with Tony about forums, I won't be donating as I donated a lot of my time before and all I got was a kick in the teeth the last time there was a hooha! (the earwig saga).

I think the problem is that Paddy runs it like a business with free labour and when things go wrong he does not ask for the help of the guys that are there day in day out but does some silly things, like asking for donations with out even telling the admins he wants to do it.

Best of luck to the guy but he needs to work on his people skills.

It's Paddy's forum, and it's nobody's business how much money it makes, or loses. It's his business.

Too right - and he'll be judged by his forum's members. I've donated in the past, but not so recently.

Which is Paddy's main business, the forum or his more tangible products? Is he aiming to make more money per amount of effort from the forum than other business enterprises I wonder? Although he owns and pays directly for its running, it's the long-standing members and contributors (both paypal and knowledge) who have paid in reality, at the same time boosting Paddy's business.

I hope this isn't the beginning of the end of VOD, but at least there is this cracking place!

I think that about sums up how I feel too.... Most/all the mods there spend their time sorting issues with little/no thanks--Apart from some grateful members (Cheers fellas)--then are asked to donate for their trouble too....

Ho-Hum.....

I havent given VOD that much time over the last few months--what with depression and everything else....

Things are done there sometimes with no discussion,-- like this donations thing, makes you feel--Why bother? Must admit--I'll not be 'donating' this time, although I didnt get the 'begging letter' email--Probably thought better of it--He knows what my reply would have been!....

It was handled All Wrong in my honest opinion.

--I cant understand the squabbling thats been apparent in the last few months leading to some long-term guys leaving.--Whats going on....?

--It aint just the B/W issue--Summit is happening there I dont understand.

Its part of his commercial website. If there's a b/w issue, then rectify the problem--extend b/w or move to cheaper servers and trim the dross accounts--sure as a mod. I could do that--If I knew how, but wasn't discussed so there you go.....

I did ask how much it cost, but he didn't answer.....

Its a shame, but unless something is done quick to sort this nonsense, then it'll die on its ass.....

What happens if you donate £2 and the site folds, do you get your money back?

I haven't donated,
Yes i have learnt a lot from the forum but i haven't made any remarkable savings.
I haven't been in the bio game long and its just about re cooping the cost of processor building.

I attempt to sell PID's thanks to some info in my sig but it hasn't been amazing business.  The £2 could well be 4-12% of my profit

Things for a forum owner to remember.
the owner is simply the guy who holds and distributes the data.
The data is written for free buy members for members.
The forum owner should not think they own that data because they don't.

I agree with donating to help a forum out but being told that i will be restricted from viewing threads if i don't pay is out of order. Its not the forum owners data to decide upon.

Im keeping an eye over there but when forums start closing temporarily the popularity soon drops as people search for an alternative.
Biopowered seems to be most peoples chosen alternative

VOD could also drop off the google search rankings if its closed when the robot tries to crawl it.

Ive donated in the past, and to date have not had a begging letter.
Ive found VOD to be very helpful in the past and hopefully in the future, was on the info pop site before I found VOD.

To be honest Ive cut down a lot on my use of VOD because of the bitching and off topic comments on there, most topics seem to end in a free for all about anything but Bio/WVO.
I hope and pray this site does not go the same way.

I think VOD will be lucky to survive if things arent changed.

I've donated to VOD in the past, and also didn't receive the e-mail.  It's either that or by post count perhaps?

I think it was the offtopic stuff that got a core of people here in the first place, that just wanted to talk pure bio/veg without the distractions of stuff like people fixing things on their cars not related to the fuel system.

That said the odd bit of offtopic just adds colour, but not too much of it.  Got to keep the signal to noise ratio right :)

Its the off topic stuff that keeps any forum alive and human just plodding on about fuel and systems is so dry and like a class room discussion .
I for one left my school blazer and cap behind me long long ago in a far far off place .

variety is the spice of life, ibeen abit bored lately on this site last week i flick on have a quick look and gone, for the most part of the site its very much geared for bio and the making of it, which is fine and dandy and a brilliant infomation highway. would be nice to see other stuff going on.

there has been change we have biobay but only for bio bits and bobs...
