VOD has lost the plot
« on: March 21, 2013, 07:53:59 PM »
What on earth is going on over there? The forum gets spammed which needs sorting obviously, but how has it got to people being banned, the forum being shut down all day, threats to pay up or lose functions on the site, and an awefull lot of bad feeling amongst some of the more senior members and mods.
This will not end well and as far as I can see could well be the start of the end for vod.

I didn't like the threat of pay up or lose out.
He should of put up a post saying about his intentions, wouldnt of upset so many people that way.

I think it's a real shame. I reckon that 95% of the members there gain more knowledge than they donate (and I include myself in that 95%, and deliberately use the word 'donate'), save themselves £100s, or even £1000s, and then blow off about having to give a couple of quid back......

It's Paddy's forum, and it's nobody's business how much money it makes, or loses. It's his business.

I think that if I am to gain commercially from somebody's knowledge, then I should pay. No question.

Oily. (steps down from soapbox)

But having said that, the situation could perhaps have been handled a little better.

Using 50 000 litres a year, I'm surprised you stand up long enough to let them fall down.

I agree with oily....It's been really badly handled.

I think the most disappointing aspect is the one that many who have the knowledge have highlighted.....there are cheaper, more cost effective ways of forum hosting.

The value in any forum is not the forum, but the members.  The vast majority of members are quite happy to give their advice for free, I think any objection would only be against someone else charging for the advice that is otherwise freely given.
