I've heard good things about garage floor paint being resistant to oils and bio spills - anyone got any experience?
I'm keen that when we move I put down something resistant before setting up the plant again :)

Why not use polyester resin or whatever its called, that's resistant to just about everything, sling in a layer of chopped strand glass and you'll have a bomb proof floor.
It's cheaper than people realise.

I painted both the garage floor and the bio shed in Screwfix floor paint.
The garage has a very smooth finish in high strength concrete and has survived well ... circa 8 years. The only areas that have suffered are around the lathe, mill and drill where swarf gets trodden into the finish.
The bio shed lasted only a couple of years despite trying to mop up each spill and drip immediately. I replaced it with some very tasteful blue tile pattern lino which has survived quite well, but is now starting to pucker up around the most heavily trafficked area.
Jim ... if you have a source of cheap polyester floor resin, I'd love to hear of it. I spent a considerable time looking for cost effective coatings and all were way more expensive than floor paint.

I bought 5ltr a few months ago for various experimental aircraft parts, cost around the £20 mark with the hardener thrown in for free.
If you want a non slip surface stir some dry sand into the mix.
-
I can find 5l for £30 but not as low as £20. I suppose given what it is there to do, £30 isn't outrageous. Is 5l enough for a garage?
I'm sure I saw some garage floor paint for £7.99 for 2.5l in Aldi, though whether it's polyester I couldn't say.

Doh! But where from?

Forgot to say, paint on the garage floor has been fine with the occasional WVO, bio, glycerin and mineral oil spills provided it's wiped up straight away.

So the bits that didn't get wiped up straight away have bubbled or peeled?

The bio ones would have done, but I have made a point of trying to look after it ... well, the bits I can get to.
It's so full of crap now I can't see much of the floor!
I don't think WVO or mineral oil would have too bad an effect. From experience in the shed, it's bio that does the damage.

Sure you're on the right forum ... you're not supposed to be helpful and in formative on here!
They do indeed look like a good company, I prefer dealing with small outfits, they're always more willing to help and answer questions.
Their CONSEAL TSF UTILITY looks pretty good. I'm going to need to replace my vinyl soon so I'll keep them in mind.

Bloody hell man try to do your best look for a bill or get in your motor and find the company name not just stick your
head in the sand saying I know where they are but don't know what they're called.

The self leveling stuff looks really good video on this page ... http://www.reactiveresins.com/conseal-sl.html (http://www.reactiveresins.com/conseal-sl.html) The "hammer test" at the end is most impressive.
-
My living room floor has a self leveling screed on it but it's made by a company, local again, called Ardex.

For Gods sake don't tell us where they are!
-
I used screed just like that to flatten our lean-to floor. Fantastic stuff to work with.
-
Try using it on a planked floor with poor joints ... you don't have much left by the time it sets!

FFS are you fik or summit, I told you, local, very local.
-
Looked in my local corner shop and I cannot find any.
-
Has anyone tried Googling Ardex uk?
Nah, thought not, too bleedin' obvious innit.
-
i looked they are in suffolk thats not local that bleedin' miles away.
-
why not just stick with the concrete floor ? (unless it's buggered)
to me putting anything on top of it just makes one more thing that needs maintenance, or cleaning, or you to look after it
dropped an engine on your concrete floor? no one cares
split dirty old engine oil on your concrete floor ? toss some cardboard on top of it and go for a cup of tea
come home drunk, wife's kicked you out the house, slept on the garage floor and shat yourself in the night ? hose it off and no-one will know!

you as well?.

I did my garage floor a couple or 3 years ago with epoxy resin 2 pack floor paint. Did 2 coats and it is totally bio and everything else proof. I still have a chunk of it out the roller tray in a jar of bio and it's as good as ever.
I got 2 x 2.5L off ebay, nothing expensive, and that did 2 good coats on a single garage. Whatever you use, prep the floor well.

It was VERY local when you was round me 'ouse that time.

Between pedantry and trumpet practice, I'm surprised you've got time for anything else!

So there, ha ha ha la la la.

We'll have to bring one of these to the BBB...

not sure if I told this story already on here, but in hospital after falling on my head I was starting to get a bit better and fancied a shower, wasn't really well enough for a proper shower so asked about a disabled one with a seat in... they had one and were happy for me to give it a go
nurse helped me into shower, I'd already thought ahead and figured I'd leave my boxer shorts on and put a fresh/dry pair on afterwards so save flashing my nuts at the nurses
sitting on seat quite happy, nurse went out... then I started to feel a bit funny, then a bit worse... so I pulled the alarm string
next thing I remember is waking up on the floor hyperventilating, about 5 nurses in the shower with me, one holding my head telling me to breath slow... takes me a couple of min to get my bearings, breath slow etc...
I was still on the floor but doing ok so time to get me back to my room... they brought in a wheelchair for me, but it wasn't a proper wheel chair, it was a commode on wheels.... and then the smell hit me, it STINK of shit... no idea why they brought me a smelly chair but was too rough to care
they helped me up and sat me in it
that was when I saw where it's been lying on the floor... I'd shit myself.... and spread it on the wall with my hand like some kind of shit cave painting, it was everywhere
I can't remember any of that, I just hope I stopped before the nurses got there... but maybe I hadn't... I'd had a bag on my right arm to cover the cast on my wrist... and I can't remember seeing that again so a nurse must have taken it off
:-s
-
thanks for that...... send it to Jeremy *unt so he can see where the nhs should be spending their money
bet he has private shit cleaners.
-
I'd have never thought about shitting meself in a shower just to pull a couple of nurses.
Another one of your hilarious bird stories.

think you would have to do more than just shit yourself to pull anything at your age.
-
This is a thread about floor paint.
Please tell me you're not suggesting excrement as a possible solution. Although it must be said half dozen nurses to clean up spills would be an excellent idea.
-

pah, a couple? what kind of armature do you think I am ?
there were 5 of them!
(I'm assuming whichever one came when I pulled the string shouted and the rest cam running)
