Only one way to find out.

If it works, we need to find out what their "E-dye" is so the rest of us don't have to pay 20 quid.

While you're ordering, this stuff looks like the sort of thing I'd like for Christmas ... http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-miscellaneous-tools/black-plasti-dip-coating-429ml.html

Wonder if it's bio proof?  All sorts of uses in the bio shed.

Site's a good find, lots of interesting things.

I've got a distant memory that the Ethanol test was discussed on the VOD a long while ago, and the conclusion was that it would not work for Methanol. Someone did give an explanation of why it wouldn't work, but theres' no way I can remember what it was.
I could be totally wrong though.

That rubber dip stuff looks good. Be great for things like good quality pliers, where the handles have worn away.

It looks like it relies on Ethanol being soluble in water whereas Gasoline is not, and floats above it.  The dye must colour one or the other, though this isn't clear form the instructions:

http://www.por15.com/Data%20Sheets/POR-15%20E-Test%20Kit.pdf

No reason this wouldn't work for Methanol in finished biodiesel though how accurate it is remains to be seen.  We could try it with food dye without having to buy the kit.
