After the revelation that Glycerin burns better if you don't add water to it, I'm starting to get very interested in Glogs ...

When I was using Glycerin with 7% water it tended to stay liquid at summer ambients, long enough to make logs. Glycerin from the last batch which was heavily demethed and had no 7% water wash, was quite solid the following morning.

It seems a waste heating it just to manufacture the logs. As a point of interest how hot do you have to get it before it melts ... I'm guessing not very.

So current train of thought is to add something to the Glycerol as it's draining which is flammable or inert, miscible with Glycerine and not hazardous. Any suggestions and I'll do some experimenting.

I know I could use potassium but I've just bought 25 kg of sodium.

Why not drain it into a tub with shavings in already then you just have to shovel it into containers? That way you don't need to add anything or to re heat.

It would be nice to save the Glycerin and make logs when convenient though.

However that's a thought, I've got a batch running at the moment, I'll give it a try. New processor, should it ever get started may have to include a mechanical mixer under the glycerol drain.

As Dick says, drain it into the wood dust, mix it up and then store in a sealed container (like a 60 litre drum or such like). Once the sawdust is mixed in, for some reason it never seems to set solidly. I don't entirely know why but I have found it loads of times.

A lot of things dont mix with glyc overly well unfortunately. Methanol does but it's not cheap or inert and if you are going to do that, you may as well give up demething.

Water does too, but, as we discussed by U2U, it doesn't burn.

Andy (glycerides) and I once tried 'cleaning' WMO with glyc - alas, it does not split again like WVO and glyc do.

WMO is grim stuff though. I try and just pour mine direct into the cement mixer.

I had to process 300 litres of veg oil contaminated with WMO,never again,i tried giving it away but even Dick turned it down
