wvo to bio conversion rates
« on: July 27, 2014, 09:10:40 AM »
My last few batches have had a high acidity value, 18 to 20 grams per litre of koh. The conversion rate has been between 70 and 75%.
With my old processor was getting 80% plus but wvo was 12 grams per litre max, since building the new one the only oil i have been able to source has been high in value.
Is the drop in conversion due to the high acidity or should i be looking elsewhere?

you have more free fatty acids with higher titrating oils these are turned to soap first in the reaction, that is why you need more KOH as its used up making the soap, more soap means less bio...simples
