did a batch of gloppy Chinese oil, needed 3stages to get a instant clear test pass. ( tit around 3).
the next day when i was bubble washing noticed that it was Begin to emulsify. Did a 27/3 and failed with .4 fallout.
so back into reactor with 150g Kohl and 6lts methanol (65ltr in reactor)after one hour not instant pass so put 50g and 1lt methanol and got an instant pass.
This morning did a test and did not get an instant pass, no fallout but there is a layer of fine dust on bottom. whats going on?

I often get thick, "gloopy" oil from Indian restaurants and that doesn't process well. Not sure what's going on, but I suspect that it may be contaminated with some sort of thickening agent ... Possibly corn starch?

Had similar from a Chinese restaurant and wondered if they were dumping left over plum sauce into the oil ... it looked exactly the same.

Chinese oil has a lot of MSG in it, perhaps this causes issues. Though I don't see how a reverse reaction could be occurring after settling.

What process steps do you go through between clear pass and the re-test? Do you condense off the Methanol?

I put back the glyc then do 5% water wash, drain off then de-meth.
second time as above but used 6lts of dry glyc .
then got the failed test, the next morn.

did a test 1 hour ago using 225ml meth and 25ml of bio (saw on the wiki page about 27/3 test). seems clear am waiting to see for any fallout.

after 90 mins its cloudier than when i first did the 225/25. the methanol was warmed to 25c, its now 9c in shed.
my feedstock had a green colour, Fried seaweed is a popular dish.

With a large fall in temperature, it's quite likely you will get drop out. Can you perform and retain the test at a constant 20°C?

yes, will do that and keep near the stove.
am on my 3rd gentle bubble wash, 40 mins each. 1st water came out like watery milk. the next 2 have got progressively better

Might be worth another 3/27 when you've finished washing and drying.

warmed methanol to 30 c clear instant pass, its next to stove and is still crystal clear 1 hour later

The test should be done at 20° C. I don't often worry too much about temperature unless I'm struggling to get a pass.

If you were bubble washing I assume with water ? did you dry it before re reacting it ?

warmed up the 225/25 test i did earlier that had gone cloudy, its gone clear.
there are now small white bits in suspension in bio now.
will wash a few more times tonite then let it settle overnite, drain off in the morning and go from there.
this Chinese glop is not for the faint hearted.

Sounds a little bit like something I had with some groundnut oil last year, never had an emulsion when washing, if anything it washed easier than my normal oil.
