VOD getting boring??
« on: February 24, 2013, 01:38:55 PM »
Is it me or is the VOD getting to be the same old stuff, as the cash flow gets tighter there seems to be a lot more 'Hi from Newby' or 'can I run my car on oil' or 'I did this and now I have this problem' - it seems to be a long time since there was a good discussion or new development

I posted this nearly two years ago saying pretty much the same thing ... http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum/viewthread.php?tid=22958

Which is why I hardly use the VOD any more.  I find the off topic threads a real pain with far too many car repair posts or, as you say, people asking daft questions to save a penny or two without putting any effort into research first.  I think others feel the same way looking at the rate of new posts in the last couple of months.

Shame, it used to be so good.

Then there's the increasing 'Political' inspired posts...
Another forum I use bans them outright, together with ANY political biased reply to any post.
Brewing bio. And still not breaking cars!

The political point  would be difficult to argue against considering Chug and HC are so dominant in their views. Personally, it doesn't bother me as I don't read those threads.

However, I think the VOD still has a good position in the bio discussion genre dispite the number of newbies asking questions. There are many on this site that started out that way....me included....I say don't knock it. Of all the biodiesel sites on the web these two...biopowered and VOD are the two we all turn to first.

It was obvious from the start that this forum would pull the more serious/experienced brewers away from the VOD leaving it to beginners, newbies and lurkers.

Now I have had my afternoon nap I don't feel quite so grumpy. The web is a wonderful place to search/read and if used properly the answer is out there, if you don't find the answer then your question is unique. We are all feeling the pinch at present but some people don't research and then wonder why things are going wrong with their vehicles because they think that an alternative fuel is the answer to cheap motoring - they forget about the need to dewater/filter/blend or the basic chemistry lesson about playing with chemicals. Rant over, back to sleep.

Yes the VOD has gone down in quality, far to much non bio/veg stuff.

No, that's not quite right, the quality is still there, it's just harder to find amongst all the other stuff.

Yes Nige, we did all start knowing nothing and asking loads of questions, silly ones as well.

I was running veg for a year before moving over to bio, I spent a long time reading everything that was posted at that time,
it left me with more questions than answers, I messed up and learnt from it (sometimes anyway).
