the tools were but a dream...

I expect I'm not the only one to be more than a little confused now.

Anyhow all this talk of batteries reminded me that I was given a Snap-on impact driver, battery and charger a while back with the now quite familiar words if you can fix it you can have it.  I was told the battery was knackered.

I had looked at fitting new cells to my NiCd dewalt, but the trigger of my new drill broke and I robbed the spare form my old drill, so no point in repairing the batteries.

I've done a little research on replacement cells for the Snap-on and thought that others may be interested in the results.

I was unsure if the 14.4v Snap-on pack was , NiCd or NiMH, but it would appear that the cell sizes and voltages are the same (at least for the battery pack I was looking at).  These are "Sub C" size, 1.2v and I think the originals were 2500mA.

After an hour or so of looking, the place with the best selection and keenest prices was this crowd with free shipping of goods over £15.00 and only £1.95 under that ...

http://www.batteriesplus.co.uk/acatalog/1.2V_NiMH_Sub_C_Rechargeable_Tagged_Batteries.html

the above only seem to only offer "tagged" cells, but untagged cells are available from other suppliers.

To recell the Snap-on battery pack with similar, NiMH cells will cost £30.00, a little more if I go for higher mA cell.  I wonder how much it would be from the manufacturer?

There is also what I'm guessing is a thermistor wired into the pack.  I've checked with a meter and the resistance changes if I warm it between my fingers, so I guess that's functioning correctly.

I just need to check the impact wrench is working before I splash out on the cells.  I tried it on a 12v battery and it didn't work!

PS I'd just like to pre-empt and spoil all the "Strap on" jokes, thank you.

What you do in your spare time Julian is your own business  ;D

Rotary will probably have hell of a herbover this morning.  I'm quite impressed that he can type sentences that well when under the influence :)
