Fuel hose for biodiesel?
« on: December 16, 2012, 11:13:04 PM »
Anyone know what will last in the engine bay?

I have some 8mm food grade hose but that's delaminating already where there is some engine heat, after only a week or so.

R6 hose looks like NBR, sounds better?  What is everyone else using?  RM what is in your truck?

Same as the injector spill pipe trick ... Nylon.

All the Disco's fuel lines look and feel like they are a very rigid Nylon and never had a problem with them.

I have Nylon for the run from the tank to the engine bay and it's been like that for years, however does it clamp over 8mm barbs?  I have a small rubber section that has also survived years of biodiesel abuse no problem but I don't know what it is - but it is nice and flexible.

Thanks for the links, it does look like some of that rubber hose is biodiesel resistant.

A friend of mine is bringing some spare hose from the boatyard, looks like it might be good stuff, for free I'll certainly give it a go before resorting to paying for it :)

The boat-graded diesel hose is surviving fine so far, the rest of the 8mm braided hose that I have is starting to de-laminate, particularly in warm areas of the engine bay (now I've routed the hose across the front of the rad to keep it cooler with airflow which seems to have helped.

I've picked up some 8mm Nylon hose (pretty cheap as it turns out, at a quid a meter) and am kinda surprised by how well it fits over 8mm barbs - I was expecting to look like it would leak.  I've not tested it in the system yet as I'm waiting for some suitable hose clamps to turn up but I think this one will be a go-er.

I've bought the natural coloured nylon, it's not as transparent as braided hose but it should still be possible to see if there is fuel in there or not and maybe the presence of air bubbles if backlit - will have to see.

Not sure if this helps but I get a hose assembly which is air, oil water and solvent proof.  I've had them on various parts of my plant and they perfect, not sure what the temp limit is.

I get them in 1/4" and 3/8" but I'm sure other dia are available.

I buy leak off hose from these people, it is genuine Bio proof hose. They now do a range of sizes, not cheap but it is the real deal.

If I fitted my car out with that stuff it'd pretty much double its value  ;)

Get yourself down here: http://www.hyphose.com/

Every type of hose in every size with every possible fitting, and a great many more shiny things. I have to leave my wallet at home and only take in cash or else I end up buying the entire shop.

   Good link.

Their 76mm silicone hose is about a third the price I could find it elsewhere when I was looking at making a multi tube condenser.  That would make the project viable.
