The pump you can see in the vid is the genuine metering pump, will defo not work with a facet.. and the ecu is built into the unit.

Look on ebay.de and a few companies sell control units for them, some are even sms activated using a smart phone. Wake up put kettle on, send your car a sms and tell the heater to heat the water, leave the house and start with coolant and engine already up to temp!

I am going to fit one in my next car!

I have a unit taken out of a Mk2 Galaxy that one day I will get to play with.. I fancy a couple of rads in the workshop heated from bio. And an air unit fitted in my camper

Both the Galaxy's we run have them but neither are working for whatever reason, I am yet to investigate. They have 2 temp sensors they rely on, one to let it know ambient temp is below 5c (fitted up under the scuttle panel) and the other is the engine temp sensor which tells it the engine is below 70c. Below both of these temps the unit should kick in to aid quick warm up.

sounds interesting.  i assumme they are only fitted to the diesel rover 75s. how hard is it to take one out? thinking of raiding the local scrapyard for one. there must be a lot of old rovers and galaxys in scrapyards. as the price of scrap is  low at the moment i suspect they will be stockpiling the cars till the price gets better. if they are like most heaters i suspect an angle grinder and  big hammer might be handy.

The Galaxy ones are Eberspacher units, a few bolts a couple of pipes and they are out.... don't forget the pump.. it's mounted over the other side beside the fuel tank and is about £70 to buy ! !  All I can see you would need to make one work is the cheapest controller they do.

I have an eberspacher D2 and a much older B4 unit (both air heaters, not water)

On the older B4, there's 4 parts - the burner, the control unit, thermostat, and pump.  The pump is just a generic diaphragm pump, the thermostat just a thermostat, but the control unit and the burner itself are eberspacher only.

On the newer D2 unit, there are 3 parts - the burner, which has the control inside it, the pump, which is an eberspacher only part, and the 'interface box' part, with a little LCD on it.  The 'interface box' is nothing special though - its an eberspacher part, but it could just be replaced with a switch or a stock thermostat, but the other parts are required / eberspacher only.

This may give some minor insight to whats needed on the similar units.
