Censorship
« on: December 16, 2012, 03:23:22 PM »
What forms of moderator intervention are used on this forum??
VOD obviously monitor and delete
Another web site states - 'Forum closed to new members without approval due to SPAM. Send a personal request for posting privileges the the Administrators'
(Obviously no freedom of speech on that site)
Have there been any problems here??
I have found this site to be more relaxed with a sense of humour

Most, if not all the members that regularly post on this site have met each other in real life, and i guess would on the whole consider each other friends.
I pointed out to a few new members on the VOD, they come along not realising that a lot of people know each other, and talk to each other on the forum, rather than just communicating on the forum, with no other contact.
So far, most the regular posters here, are not going to get overly controversial.
I think some new members come on the VOD, and want to make an impression, try to be clever and show what good ideas they have, without realising that there is more to it than just the discussion.

It a good bunch of people here open to new ideas but with the experience to look at something new and ether give it a go or come up with a good reason why it wouldn't work , instead of just saying its not my idea so it'll never work.
All new comers can look around the wiki site to get a good understanding rather than trying to work out what they don't know and go through the search option

Ive seen loads of forums that say somthing like that - i think its just an anti-spam thing.

eg one of the stationary engines ones is like that, IIRC - all you need to do is mention the word 'lister' etc and you're 'approved'

To everyones credit, to date, moderation has been unnecessary ... let's hope it stays that way!

The software the forum uses seems very flexible and by introducing a simple question for registration, Tony has more or less eliminated spam, with the exception of one occasion which we think was a human spammer.  His posts were quickly deleted and his IP banned and thankfully we haven't seem him back on here for some time.

We do indeed have a closer relationship with each other than members most other forums,
as Mc Duff said,
the BBB's have a lot to do with this and we all appreciate Chug and Linda for the time and effort they put into it.

The VOD is a comunity whereas we have an almost village feel on here (I know, I know, a village should only have one idiot).

Absolutely.  Buying kit to mow the field and poor Lynda having to wash up after those that should know better - they do put up with a lot in order to pull off a BBB.

Definitely highlight of the year though :)
