Anyone tried magnet fishing?

I found my "sea searcher magnet" today and fancy giving it a go,has anyone else tried it?

If I was near a inner city water way, I'd have one of those on a long rope, and go dredging. Could pull out some interesting stuff. In amongst the shopping trolleys and steel toe cap boots.

A bloke local to us dredged 3/4 tonne I think it was of scrap out of the local river, bikes and all manner of junk, but the metal yards wouldn't take it for some reason!

No such thing nowadays.

You may come across what looks like a nice village, but scratch the surface and you'll still find stolen push bikes, knifes, discarded needles.

when i worked on the boats we always had people bringing in the windlassas < not sure on spelling, amatuer boaters would let them go at the lock, usually spinning off and hitting them in the face then dropping in the clinck, the magnet dredgers made a few quid at fiver a time, there 4 times that.

I did think about going magnetic fishing but then I realised the it would be no good for gold fish so gave up on the idea

I once took one on a boating/fishing holiday on the Norfolk broads.
We pulled out of the water half a dozen boat hooks, broken fishing rods and landing nets, keys, loads of knives, forks, and spoons. An umbrella and a glass jar with a metal lid. Inside, it was full of plastic fake maggots.
