filtration cartridge pressures
« on: December 15, 2010, 05:12:03 PM »
Hello everybody, I'm very happy that people have edited my pages, but ....... RE: Filter cartridges are typically rated at pressures of between 0.8 - 6 bar, ......... Is this really true? I am only aware of cartridges being rated to 0.8 bar. Maybe there is some confusion about the difference between differential pressure (DP) and absolute pressure (AP)? The housings are rated at 6 bar AP and the cartridges 0.8 bar DP. I think this is important cos else people will bugger up their cartridges.

According to Pentek tech support, and from my findings, cartridge filter housings are generally designed for 100PSI operation (7bar); however, the pressure drop across the filter media is another thing, and far more important to keep in mind.  Pleated cellulose filters are designed to handle 20 PSI (1.4Bar) across the membrane; whereas bag filters are designed for 15 PSI (1bar) across the membrane.  Other types of filter media are most probably in these ranges.
