Waste carrier/broker/dealer licence
« on: September 27, 2012, 09:27:33 PM »
Am i right in thinking the £154 covers you for 3 years?
I need to get one to cover the rubbish we move via the trailer at work but also need one for a new 2500 litre collection i should be getting,so i think i would need to register as a carrier and broker to cover my backside

I'm sure it does cover you for three years, I've looked into it in some depth a while back, coz i will need one too, before next year, by law anyway. i think getting it soon would be a good idea, coz I think there will be a big rush come the deadline. Havent looked into registering as a broker much. Seems to me that being a carrier, it doesn't mean much, coz loads of people are doing that, but going as a broker could attract more attention from the EA, coz your really saying that you are dealing in waste as a business, rather than with waste as part of your business.

Back when getting Waste Carrier Licence was all the rage, I used to collect "as an agent" of another guy in Southampton with a WCL.  This is another one of those times when having some umbrella organisation would be good for us, then we could all chip in for a licence and collect under the guise of that organisation.

For me, its not so much about collecting oil. From december 2013, I have to have one by law, because the EA classifies me as running a business that generates waste.

Now experience tells me these things never come off BUT
I have the chance of 2500 litres of oil from one place per year, there is meant to be 7000 litres available but they will only allow one person to collect 2500,two of us intend splitting this but we were thinking if we get to know them we could both get licences and get 2500 each, not that im greedy or anything.
The chance to pick up my allowance from one place four times a year is worth the cost of a licence even if i didnt need one for work

The EA must have some scheme up their sleeve, they're hardly going to force certain businesses to get licenses, then do nothing. They're bound to have a purge on checking up on applicants, I would have thought.

There are no checks, you fill in the form online, pay online and get the certificate through the post, I have just applied for one and should have it in the next few days. You will find loads of places now expect you to have one before giving you any oil.

I have tried explaining that as a private bla bla bla.... and their attitude is if you want to collect oil from us you must have a WCL.

Load of shite really.
