Running VW Passat 1.6 TDi (1598cc) 105 PS on B100.
« on: November 08, 2025, 11:49:55 AM »
A friend has just acquired a 2013 VW Passat 1.6 TDi manual & was wondering if it could be successfully run on well made B100? It's got 226K on the clock but looks & runs better than you would expect with that mileage.

I don't know much (anything TBH) about VWs but seeing it is a common rail & comes with a DPF as standard I'm not optimistic. Has anyone here had any experience of running one on B100? Can anyone advise please?

My wife got the same model earlier this year and it's been running on B30 to B40 since and seems good at that. I don't know about B100, if you did I think you'd have to do a DPF delete - gut dpf and map it out.

RichardP,

Thanks for the info.

I don't think he's up for messing around with the DPF so it'll probably be run on dino juice from the petrol station. The seller told him he got around 50mpg, which seems unlikely to me. What does your wife's car do to the gallon?

B100 would be a bit risky I think, however Bill (on here) runs his Fabia (its about 2018) on 50/50 I believe he has had it from new.

Our Octavia, 2015 plate runs fine on 1/3 to 2/3 bio/derv Only a bit of a saving but  the tax is zero and it brings the ppl down to about £1,05

50mpg is easily achievable, depends on how you drive it really. Wifes is a 7 speed DSG and is better on fuel than I expected.
On a couple of runs from Warwickshire up to and beyond Glasgow - on 100% dino was around 61mpg, on around B30 it was around 58mpg.
On day to day runs locally and to neibouring towns averages about 52mpg over a tank full.

Wow, so the seller was telling the truth about the mpg!

He's not far off the mark, and as dgs says above the tax is low.

Been running my Skoda Fabia 1.6TDi on B50 for some time. Started in 2017 with about B20 then gradually worked it up to B50. Done about 40,000 miles on B50. Still got a working DPF that regenerates OK at B50, but going up from there it doesn't seem to regenerate so well. I monitor the dpf with an Android app called VAG DPF. Had a recent problem with the tank fuel pump but I think it is related to using some very old, a bit gloppy, diesel additive ( I thought it would be the best way to get rid of it!) that caused a blocked inlet filter. PITA to fix, won't do that again.
Still forever scrabbling up the learning curve.
