It is that simple! Just a still that boils off the various hydrocarbons. Simple but very dangerous, open flame and gas and petrol vapours :o

Presumably the pipes out of the top are air cooled condensers effectively then?  Presumably not using pumped water.

All rather scary having a fire under it when the lighter gas fractions are coming off  :o

They must be, though being in the delta water is not too hard to get!
 Not sure if the diesel is upto EN standards  but it will work in IDI's no probs. Power outages are a massive problem in Nigeria and diesel gennys are very common, most of the diesel sold domestically would probably end up powering peoples homes and shops.
