I'm not sure why anybody would buy a vehicle knowing of it catastrophic chassis tin worm!! Sounds like its last drive should be to a scrap yard.
Sounds like it had a very dodgy certificate of road worthiness. If I was the owner I would be reporting the testing station to the ministry.

It certainly seems to be worth only scrap money. A definite money pit.

Not sure I'd even want it as spares for mine.  He'd be best off breaking it for parts like the alternator and bumpers (though the pre-facelift ones aren't worth quite so much).

Cutting out can just be a sign of a blocked filter on those, you get a vague sense that acceleration isn't what it used to be, put your foot down a bit more and BAM, red light on dash and the engine management system shuts it off.
