Back to making bio for the heating.
« on: December 14, 2021, 04:41:50 PM »
Our Riello 40 burner finally gave up a couple of weeks ago. I can't really complain it must be 30 years oid and has been run on a bio blend up to a couple of years ago.

I took the plunge and bought a brand new Riello 40 Bio. It is a really lovely thing and as expected works faultlessly on a 50/50 bio/kero blend.

So back to making bio for the heating (in cubies of course) i mixed up 4x cubies yesterday, 15 litres of oil (not glyc washed) 2.5 litres of methanol and 150gms of KOH. Shaken a few times, left to settle outside overnight, I checked one today which showed 0.5mls dropout which is fine for the heating when blended. Who needs a processor!

I still run a very old Danesmore boiler on 50/50 bio oil mix. It keeps going but does need attention now and again. It is a good addition to the Rayburn, which uses our wood, though.
