Just thought I would update you all with the purchase of another Chinese heater. For anyone wanting to have a look my original post is here;http://biopowered.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=3136.0

The original heater in my bio room has continued to work well now for just over 2 years.

What prompted me to purchase another one was that I needed another source of heat in my polytunnel for those long Winter nights. I now have some Dwarf Cavendish (eating type) bananas in there and they don't like to be too cold.

My thermobile waste oil heater that is in the polytunnel has been really unreliable recently so I needed the reassurance of a reliable heat source. I purchased one of the 5kw heaters all installed in the red metal case and what a lovely little thing it is. The price of these 2 years ago was over £140 and now they have come down to just £104. I run it for up to 16 hours at a very low setting and although I need to check it accurately it seemed to run for the 1st two runs on 4 litres of kero. That is about 125mls per hour. I divert all the heat into a smaller (8x4 feet) plastic greenhouse where the bananas are and it keeps this at between 15 and 17degs C.

This new heater is really responsive to settings compared with the old one, I am really pleased so far.

I fitted one to my cousin's van last week Dave, it has a different controller than most, it looks the same but has different button functions. I sussed out the pump priming and got it running but we're still trying to figure out the timer functions.

I am usually hopeless with these sort of things but I found the timer functions easy enough (not that I usually use them) Didn't you get any instructions with it. I can send you a link if you want.

You tube "Chinese diesel heater timer" Tommys van life has a quick how to set the timer.

I got one a month ago and can't find the instructions. It's only run on Bio and loving it with a clean exhaust. I was wary about them after what Dave said concerning soot. I us mine on the pulse setting and it ranges 1.6 to 5.5 pulses per second. Each pulse is .02 ml so set to 2.0 = 144 ml per hour.
Check out "John wck 47" on you tube as he really knows these heaters. He really explains the workings.

A quick look shows on some you can set the on and off time and on others you set a countdown timer for the start then a duration for the burn time. Sounds like maybe Chug has one of the later type.

I've searched extensively and watched pretty much all the vids available and none of them have the same controller, except that one vid I linked to above and he's got no instructions either, all the others look physically the same but don't have P12V on powering up, all the others come up with the four zeros for the clock on powering up, and the usual buttons to press don't do the same functions on this version.

Try this. I think it's for your cousins type of controller.

Activating the Timer Start/Stop function

Press Settings and decrease buttons at the same time for 2 seconds.
Timer active indicator will turn on (clock face)
If activated while unit is shut down, this will schedule a start operation, and ON will flash next to the timer icon.
If activated while unit is running, this will schedule a stop operation, and OFF will flash next to the timer icon.
At any time while the timer function is active press the settings button to see the remaining time to ON or OFF.

Setting the Timer Delay

Press OK and Decrease buttons at the same time for 2 seconds.
Timer active indicator will flash.
Press On/Offbutton to select the digits to adjust.
Use the increase and decrease buttons to adjust time delay up to 24 hours.
Press the OK button to save the settings and exit the interface .. or press the Settings button to exit without saving.

Hi Manfred, 100% bio, thats amazing. Presumably it is the 2 to 5kw version, is it the one in the red box. I wonder if it would run for 16 hours on bio with a 1.6 pulse setting.

Hi Dave.
The one that I bought is stated as 8kw, but they are really the 5kw units. It's not in the red casing just a stand alone unit to be fitted into a camper but was £85. Not that it matters as they are all the same. Go find "John wck 47" on you tube and he compares all the heaters together. I know of another who is running one similar to yours on bio with no issues either. Give it a go it's free heat.
