M a f

The turbo seems to have disappeared,was wondering if it was the M A F . Tried to pull it out but wouldn’t move,the connector to it,had a lot of oil on it. Was wondering if it needed cleaning? Or needs a new one,any ideas. Thanks Terry

Very often if you unplug a maf sensor the engine can run normally if the sensor was faulty. It will put the eml on but at least you know.

Check for air leaks in the air (rather than fuel) induction system, even the smallest will dramatically reduce power.

Yes I did. You are the 1st to mention it on here, very low traffic on either forum at the moment.

Just to say, maf sensors often don't show faults when scanned, they only put eml light on when unplugged, most strange.

Took the car round to the garage,for a large jubilee clip,after I put the clear pipe on,told him the fault,he felt one of the pipes was rotting,put new one on hey presto,going as good as new again..looking for some oil around Edinburgh or Glasgow,lost 3 sites

Brilliant.  Amazing the difference a bit of air makes

Air leaks on the pressurised side are an odd one in terms of behaviour.  The ECU thinks there is lots of air going into the engine because a lot is drawn past the MAF, but a lot of it is lost, so it effectively overfuels for the available air.  Unless it has a boost pressure sensor as well and works from that.  (Or both).

BTW there is no MAF on your car (OM605 engine), only a MAP (which never seem to fail).
