Fuller Fuels? Or new source for Bio-fuel
« on: May 22, 2018, 11:33:36 AM »
Hi folks,

I'm new on here and I have checked to see if my query has been mentioned and I think I'm in the right place for what I need to ask; however, if I have missed the former or chosen the wrong place for the latter, then I sincerely apologise. On with the motley:

I have been using Bio-fuel in my car for some years and both I and the car like it. It's cheaper, I get more miles per litre, it keeps the engine clean and by all accounts Rudolph Diesel designed his machine to run on ‘peanut oil’. However, I have a query regarding my supplier and would be obliged if anybody could help.

My supplier - Fuller Fuels - of Widnes seems to have gone belly up. There have been no hints in the wind and no warnings or looks of trepidation from the staff whom I have got to know quite well over time - especially tattoo man Mark. I have tried all in my power to discover if and when it will re-open but to no avail. Although they still keep the telephone number, I feel they are being quite disingenuous as an electronic message takes one through various options - leaves one listening to music - then cuts one off; all the time the caller is paying for the call.

Quite apart from my disappointment at Fuller Fuels appearing to go bust and misleading people into running up a telephone bill I have been forced to return to the Diesel pump.

Does anybody have news of Fuller Fuels? For example: have they opened up else where, have they closed for good or will they be re-opening? Further more, can anybody advise me of other bio-fuel outlets in the northwest of England?

Thanks in advance

Ed.   :)

Hi Ed, Sorry, can't help you re Fuller Fuels as I'm from t'other side of the country. They have been mentioned on here before from Bio boy (if my memory is correct)

Hows about having a go at making it yourself. It isn't that difficult and can be a really rewarding hobby. Just click on the Wiki and it will give you a lot of information.

Hi Ed,

Welcome to the wiki and forum.

Same as Dave, I've heard of Fuller fuels, but know nothing of them.

Making your own bio is a good alternative, way cheaper and you know exactly the quality of what you're putting in your tank.

Thanks for that dgs,

You might be in different part of the country, not that far away though and what a beautiful city: Minster, railways, ghosts and great boozers and restaurants. I stopped off at York many years ago as a student, driving a van during the hols', and always said I would go back, but never did. As I get older I have come to realise that life always seems to get in the way of living - so I'll put York on my bucket list.

As for making Bio-fuel myself! Interesting concept. I'll definitely look into it.

Thanks again.

Ed.

P.S. as I was writing Julian appeared with similar info', thanks to you as well Julian.

the problem in liverpool isnt making bio, its getting hold of the oil.

olleco, bensons and a few others have a strangle hold, with olleco pricing smaller collectors out of the market. then theres the food collection. olleco (one of the few that collects food waste round here) wont take your food (legal requirement) unless you give them your oil too...

Hi Ed

Sorry to hear about Fuller Fuels. Another one bights the dust !

Paddy, owner of the VOD forum helped set up their plant.

Its a sign of the times for small scale sustainable biodiesel production (I think that bubble burst 3 years ago!) they where one of the last to succumb to low profit margin on a litre of biodiesel and the price of the feedstock oil.

A great shame. I had great aspirations my self for (Cambridge Biodiesel) producing back in the early days but I could have easley burnt through a ton of money before even turning a small profit.

Home brew is prolly the only Biodiesel now produced in the Uk on the small scale. I'm not even sure if BIG OIL is producing much. It's easier to make biodiesel outside the UK and ship it in (UK RTFO allow up to 7 % bio content in diesel)

Anyways diesel now up to 1.30 round here so I may have to get my kit rebuilt and start a brew...

Good luck on your future Bio diesel mission

Slabs

Hi slabster,

I took your and Julian's advice and looked into manufacture. But at 71-years of age I don't think I'd be able to do it; not alone anyhow. I might however, consider joining and helping to fund a co-operative. So anybody in the north-west thinking along the same line this might be the ideal vehicle to look at the pros and cons of such a scheme.

I think what Ged means is that you appear to have missed a question he asked earlier on in the post.

He's asking because it's quite possible to run many types of diesel on straight vegetable oil which may work out to easier.  Once he knows what car you have he, being an expert of many years standing will be able to advise you on many alternative possibilities.

You have a just a few years on me, but there are several members on here of your age still making biodiesel.   I'm sure Jim (once the nurse allows him access to the computer) and others will be along shortly to tell you age is no barrier.
