Smart UPS info needed

Hi All.
I've got a APC SMT3000RM2U Smart UPS (new and unused), I'd like to know if this would be a suitable power supply for what I have in mind.
Me and Ben are planing to build a BBQ for spit roasting a suckling pig at next years BBB (got to out do this years Womble oven roast chicken, and feed everyone this time), and I'm hoping this ups will provide enough power for long enough.
As we haven't started the build yet so motor options are open.

So throw some ideas out guys.

That part no is 120V - or is it SMT3000RMI2U - the 220-240V version?

It'll do 500W for 40 minutes, so depending on your motor power consumption you can roughly work out how long she'll run for.

Or you could use a stepper motor, 3d printer control board and run it from 12V, use G-code to control the rotation?

Might be slightly overengineering it then though...

I've checked again and it is a SMT3000RMI2U my eyes are not good with small writing any more. 

Now I expect to need 3 or 4 hours run time from the motor, so that's going to be a challenge.

It's amazing what you can build when you don't spend hours making fuel, but I do miss it, generally when I'm in the tax station.

I would look into spit roasting a pig in detail, Mark. Something to do with adding plenty of salt otherwise the meat is virtually tasteless. Next door neighbour fell into that trap 18 months ago, meat had no taste at all.

In any case I only expect the finest tasting food from Ben and Yourself.

I've been reading up on preparing the pig, and yes, salt and plenty of it, plus garlic, thyme, rosemary etc

Tash said she can get the pig as long as we give enough notice, I'm thinking of getting everyone to chip in to pay for it.

How about staying 12V though, find an old wheelchair motor/windscreen wiper motor?   Need a fair bit of torque I would have thought.  Could gear something down with bicycle gears?

Advantage of 12V is could keep it topped up with solar?

Somewhere I have a very low geared motor from a valve actuator.  It's been years since I last saw it, but I'll try and locate it and see what voltage and speed it is.

OK, found it.

It's 110v, 50Hz, 2A, 200LB.in  Speed is quoted as 1.8 MPR which I assume is minutes per rev.

So it could be run from a site transformer but it might be a bit slow.

Googling, 2-3 rpm seems to be the recommended speed, so if I've done my sums right, you'd need to gear it up by 66:1 which is quite a jump.

Yours if you want it as is the offer to turn/mill any bearings, couplings etc ... (might need raw material if I don't have suitable bits here and, before you ask, the offer does not include making a 66:1 gearbox)

I've had a Baldric moment.

How about mounting a push bike wheel and tyre onto the rotisserie shaft and have a small 12v motor turning the wheel.

I can get loads of push bike wheels of different sizes and a disc mounted on the motor covered in a low grit sand paper should give enough grip on the tyre.

I've got an old 12v battery drill that I don't use, I'm sure that will have enough grunt, it'll also provide a speed controller, the batteries from the UPS may give enough life.

i think a big fire and a hamster wheel with a dog or 2 to turn it. or a small child, trouble with a small child is we may have to feed it. alternatively weights seem to be the easiest. with a suitable gearbox. there are going to be people around all the time to reset the weights. could even have a alarm when the weights get to the bottom of their travel. a small explosion maybe to be in keeping with the spirit of the occasion. there will be plenty of oil to make weights from.
