I was about 60 miles into a trip on Friday when the car started giving typical blocked fuel filter symptoms so I stopped at the next petrol station to change it. I had bought a spare filter a while back and without checking it, had just put in the boot.
I removed the old one and threw it in the bin and got the new one out of the box only to find that the plastic bit and seal on the new filter were broken in bits at the bottom of the box.
Luckily I was able to retrieve the old filter from the bin and swap the broken bits over to the new filter so all was well but it did bring it home to me that I'd have been stuck if I'd not been able to fix it or I'd been supplied the wrong filter.
Lesson learnt ... when you buy a spare filter, check it before you bung it in the car
