Downtime this morning

Sorry about that, got an earth leakage fault on the circuit that has the router (but not the servers) on.

Unfortunately it looks like something in the cabling itself rather than anything plugged in, I've run an extension lead for the time being but that's not ideal.

Going to be a fun day finding that - maybe this excess rainwater is the problem.

Didn't they say in the borehole thread on the VOD that all water belongs to the water company?

If it's their water I'd get them in to remove it from your electrics ... they can't have it both ways!

Well I'm pretty sure everything is unplugged from the ring, but there is still a small voltage on the live circuit even when unwired from the RCBO.  Sure enough touching one of the ring wires to the RCBO trips it.  Can't measure with a multimeter because of the leakage voltage present from wherever it's from (must be a small potential between local ground and substation exported ground - only a few volts).

So I've been going around removing sockets and splitting the ring, then retesting each side with the RCBO (see if it trips). So I'm slowly working out which order the sockets in the ring are and keeping fingers crossed I won't have to pull up all the new flooring we just put down.

Well the swine of it is that this evening there is no live-earth leak so I can't trace it.  Will have to wait for more torrential rain (now every time it rains I'll be waiting for the power to trip...)
