Disk failure
« on: December 17, 2015, 10:25:26 AM »
Biopowered is suffering from disk failure, so may be up and down today as I attempt file recovery.  (We have backups so all is not lost if the disk fails totally).

I think we're OK, (smaller) replacement disk is in and none of the files affected relate to biopowered or the system partition.

The disk was making some really strange high pitched whining noises when accessing some other files, however, accompanied by the kernel dropping DMA errors into dmesg, so it was definitely on the way out!

Tony,

Did you have to buy a new drive?

Do you want some dollar for it?

(and, please, dont start all that "forum supporter" nonsense!)

Sterling work as usual Tony.

The problem you highlighted is a complete mystery to mere mortals!

I second what Julian said.  You shouldn't be out of pocket and I'm happy to chip in.

I do rather fancy a large flashing neon "Forum supporter" logo surrounded by a dozen animated smileys though.

That'd be pretty cool actually, can you organise that for when we next see the head of our local school?

I'd have to wear a suit and be like, "don't be messin with big tone y'all"
