Why does it need to be stainless because of heat? Stainless does not cope with heat as well as mild steel, if we make anything which needs to withstand head from stainless we have to use 321 which is a grade specifically for withstanding heat. 304 or 316 will just turn to coke and crumble away.

stainless colanders are easier to find than mild steel or brass ones.enamel ones are probably mild steel. suspect you would get of slivers of glass flying off though.
