Like it, second one could be referring to me, my adventure being making bio!
HOWEVER;
If I were 10 years younger I think I might head off to Nome, Alaska and try my hand at gold dredging. The sound of 1oz/day (@1500 $ us) sounds good.
since I've been off work for 2 months I've run out of stuff to do
saw an episode of the bearing sea gold on tv so downloaded the first 2 seasons this week, and the first 2 seasons of the one where they go under the ice... and watched them all in a week
what amases me is how crap they all are... maybe they're putting it on for tv, and I'm not one for health and safety, but there's a few times the divers airline has disconnected because they didn't tighten up a jubilee clip leaving the driver 40feet away from the ladder, under 5ft of ice with no air at all - just the last breath they've taken to hold onto.... and at least half a dozen times divers have lost air because their air compressors have run out of petrol.... one group had an electrical fire next to the compressor so it started pumping toxic fumes down to the diver etc. etc.
if they can do it then anyone can ?
something as dumb as having an air compressor with an air tank would make a massive difference, they run at 80psi so even a little 20litre tank would give the diver a few min to get back to the surface safely
and the sluice boxes that catch the gold out of the water... they have gold in them right to the end... of they should be longer... gold right at the end means there'll be gold going over the end and back into the water ?
they keep getting bigger pumps, and using bigger dredging nozzles on the end of the suction tube... so they massively increase the flow rate over the sluice box.... but they don't change/adapt the sluice box... flow rate through the pipe should be proportional to the width of the sluice box right ? so if you have more water going over it, you spread it out more, so the water runs over it at the same speed.... slow enough to drop the gold out of it ?
if they can do it anyone can!
erm.... can you tell I've got too much time on my hands ?
