Any ideas???
« on: June 24, 2015, 09:47:33 PM »
My mate has been running Biodiesel for some time now but has all of a sudden started running much louder at tick-over. It still idles the same its just much louder. He has inspected his injectors but they seem fine, had his pump checked too. I'm thinking that he may have suffered engine oil dilution as a result of bio passing the piston rings. Does this sound feasible?

He is going to drop the oil tomorrow so we will know soon enough.

Anyone else had similar issues?

Yes pump timing advanced, not sure why!  Knocked like a bad'un.

I changed the oil in my Disco for the first time in probably 3-4 years.  It made a massive difference to engine noise (now wish I'd done it much sooner!).

Based on that your scenario of oil dilution sounds quite plausible.

As a matter of interest how did he ckeck the injectors, has he got access to the right kit?

What type are they, pressure opened or electronic?

He stripped them down i think. He has a Citroen Van and he is a mechanic so knows what he is doing.

Think you need to be doing it a bit more often than that, esp on bio, then again its only a LR
