More tax dodging for me...
« on: January 16, 2015, 11:50:18 PM »
My 101 (landrover) has a reg date of '82, but all the 101 ambulances were built as GSs (general service - the soft top one) in the 70s.
They were then put into storage by the army, pulled out, and modified with hard biddies.

Given that the historic tax exemption thing is now rolling again (40yr) i figured in 7yrs mine would be exempt.  7yrs is quite a way off.

But...

Ive just been informed that they will go by the chassis date.  Which will probably be around 40yrs ago now, or in the next few years.

That's a bit of a bonus.  I was planning on taking it off SORN this year anyhow, so ill be looking at the detail more closely now.

If i could get cheap insurance on it (which it seems i cant) it would be very cheap motoring indeed.

Tax exemption is not rolling as far as I know, it has however been moved to pre '74.

Oh and you are right about the build date of the vehicle being accepted as age not registration date.

I think it happened in one of the budgets, two years ago maybe?
Something to do with pressure from some classic vehicle group IIRC.

That was when the cut off date was moved from pre 73 to pre 74, last spring budget maybe?,at the time it was pointed out that it was not going to be a rolling 40 year exemption. If it has become a rolling exemption I have not read about it in any of the classic car mags.
