Methoxide Mixer
« on: November 28, 2010, 07:48:29 PM »
I see we've got http://www.biopowered.co.uk/wiki/Methoxide_mixer

I was going to add a page on Mixing Methoxide (how to dispense Meth, measure NaOH and mix both by shaking in a drum).

Is this seperate (since it's not a "mixer" as in equipment as such)?

Tony ...

Yes, I think that's a perfectly viable page, lots of safety info, handling chemicals, effects of mixing, storage etc etc.  My page was how to make a mixer, hopefully, in time, others will contribute different versions.

Chug ...

Cribbed some off Tony's pages, looked some stuff up and guessed other bits.  I've started putting a crib sheet together which I copy and paste from a notepad file.  This is it so far ...

Good point K.H, I've used that in the garden before (steaming drums of chemicals are a genius way to scare the neighbours!).  Don't suppose anyone has a link?

Julian, thanks for the summary - it might be a good idea to seperate that out into it's own stickyed post - lots of useful information?

OK, nice one mate  ;D

I see you've got the hang of categories on new pages but for those that don't know, you just add:

[[Category:Biodiesel]]

..at the end of a page (actually, you can make any old category name up, the wiki just groups together pages that use the same category name - need need to "create" a category as such).

it's not critical as mostly people interested in bio will be the main ones to read it but any chemists may pick fault becuase whilst it is generally know as methoxide in biodiesel circles it isn't really.

Methoxide is methanol and sodium mixed, CH3OH (often abbreviated as MeOH) with Na.

We mix methanol and sodium hydroxide, MeOH and NaOH so slightly different.
