VW engine info please.

Has any one any experience of running a BKD 140bhp 235lbsft PD engine on Bio. 

Engine type is supposed to be the one fitted to a Tiguan.

No, not me.  It's a mate of mine who wants to run it on my spare bio!

I think he said it was a 54 plate.  Later Tiguans appear to have a newer engine called a bluemotion (what ever the hell that is).  I guess the next question is can a bluemotion engine run on bio?

VW seem to have a downer on bio recently, saying that none of their cars will run on it.

I would not bother giving him any. Those engines have a known issue where the oil pump chain drive breaks and wrecks the engine, also there was a recall on the injectors.

Its only a matter of time before his engine dies on derv, any bio will make him blame you.

Thanks Arash, luckily he's not bought the car yet, so I can warn him off.

He'd prefer a VW based on build quality and how we've got along with the wife's Golf, but wants one that's not low to the ground and that stands a good chance of surviving my surplus bio.

Golf plus seems to fit the bill, but has anyone got any other ideas?

Unless you are looking at post 2009 cars, stick with the 1.9PD engine. Those modern vags have other issues too, interior trim quality is abysmal, parking brake not releasing when its cold etc....

I wanted one as liked the look of the passat but in the end I bought another old merc.

A mate at work had the oil pump fail on his Golf with this type of engine. I think the bottom end was replaced with the AWX....since then no issues.

Freelander 2 I think is a Ford Duratorq engine according to Wikipedia.  Are these any good on bio and has anyone experiance of owning one?

I had a Mondeo with a duratorque 2.0 lump in it.

Steer clear is my advice.

As a rabid anti landrover type person, I'll not comment, but they do say the pumps are weak on the duratorqe engine, along with the dual mass fly wheel, and most of the rest of it........

If you are interested in what seems to be a fairly tidy Freelander, my Sisters Husband has one for sale. Y reg, good ticket, a few minor problems, IIRC. It does look very tidy.
He wants about double what similar ones are selling for, but might have to adjust his ideas shortly. It's not got the duratorqe engine.

I will say one thing about them, the fuel filter is mounted somewhere around the rear wheel arch, and is so awkward to change that  not even the most passionate landrover enthusiast could claim it was a good idea.
First thing I would do is cut it off and fit something sensible under the bonnet.

Not as high as a Disco but similar to a Freelander in normal height. Four different levels of height too at the press of a button. It's even four wheel drive too

That's got 180BHP and is a standard rotary pumped engine with 'normal' fuel injectors etc.

Mind you, if he is only running bio occasionally and having to feed it dino the rest of the time, it could end up being quite pricey.
We just came back from a 600 miles in 52hrs trip away to Leicester then back home via Longleat and Axminster.
The whole trip average was 28MPG although, to be fair, I was certainly not driving at anything like a steady 56mph
