Tam 105 Oilectrics
« on: June 25, 2014, 07:30:02 PM »
Had a problem with my tam 105 pump today. It was working fine until I introduced some water into processor for pre wash. Pump then stopped running and the electrics tripped every time I tried to turn it on.
I stripped it and poured about half a pint of oil out of the leccy motor. Obviously a seal has gone and I will try and get one from Machine Mart tomorrow.
But my problem is the windings are soaked in a mixture of oil, bio and water.
Anyone got any ideas on how to clean and dry it?

In what orientation is your pump?

A leak from a seal should never be able to access the motor.  Some pumps have a thrower ring on the shaft to deflect any liquid away from the motor.

The tam 105 has a small drain hole underneath to drain anything that gets past the seal. My pump is fitted horizontally but turned 90 degrees on its axis so that the drain hole is halfway up one side of the pump at the back close to the fitting plate where it couldn't be seen. (Does that make sense?)
I think it has had oil or bio in it for ages because I had a small leak but could not see where from. Now I know once I found the drain hole. It was the water that got into it today that finished it off.

Soak it in ipa for a few hours. Rinse with water.  Allow to dry, then cook in an oven at under 100 degrees for a few hours.
