I got a question?
« on: May 05, 2014, 09:49:01 AM »
hey all hows it hanging, anyhooes

how does a car battery when charging it know when to stop at 12 volts, come to that any battery like nicads litium ion, remote control batterys etc?

I have been charging 2x batts in me front room (shed) and while watching tv looking at the batts hows that work then?

I know the charger is usually higher volts than the batt its charging like 15 for a car batt.

come to that how does a car batt get all those amps in there too, you can have 2x batts both 12 volts say with very far apart amps scale, like a car batt and a drill battery.

It's due to the chemical reaction, it can't react anymore.

Think of it like a ballcock in a water tank, when it's full it can't take anymore.
But battery's are normal 13.5 volts

The amperage is down to how the cells are setup inside.

When it's full and you carry on forcing power into it, that's when the cells start bubbling off hydrogen!

Proper lead acid chargers start with a constant current charge then switch to a float voltage when the current drops off.

Err, umm, I know, but I can't explain it.........
Your amp hours is something to do with the size of the plates. Bigger AH batterys are heavier.

It comes from the government electricity vaults to go in the wires, they only use it to track you.  And read your mind.

There are still plenty of people round here who won't have anything electric in their bedroom, in case the devil comes down the wires in the night..........
